There have been many Bad Sequels to movies. Lets be honest most of the time the original is always going to be the best! Here’s 2 of the worst sequels I have watched.. This see’s the First EVER post on ‘Frightful Fridays’ (its not just a day for horror reviews but for bad bad movies).
The Ring 2 (2005)
The Sequel: The Ring was a remake of Japanese sensation Ringu (which scared the crap out of me) and marked a new trend in Hollywood J-horror adaptations. However what’s strange is Ringu director Hideo Nakata helmed this confusing follow-up, which catches up with Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) six months after the events of the first film… It’s obvious what is going to happen… am I right?
Why It’s Terrible: The original’s killer video tape was delightfully frightful and a good concept in places in the first movie, however this time ‘it’ is just generally out to get them and the plot of the movie is just awful, full of unnecessary jumpy sections that you know are going to happen.
What They Should Have Done: Used a different selection of characters that were not affected by the story in the first movie, and changed the way that people watched the video or they could have come up with a completely different concept.
Son Of The Mask (2005)
The Sequel: The first film’s facewear is washed up from a river, and Jamie Kennedy has the misfortune to be wearing it whilst impregnating his wife… and a son of the mask is born, now with Loki (The owner of the mask) being mischievous he wants to find the baby for his own.
Why It’s Terrible: The first film hung it’s well-done cartoon action on a fairly decent story. This dives straight into the OTT action with a deluge of dodgy CGI, a messy plot and no comedy talents. It was an utterly awful movie and should have never been made, this leaves a nasty skidmark on Jim Carey’s performance as ‘The Mask’ in the first movie! What a pile of shit!
What They Should Have Done: If they really wanted more Mask antics without Carrey, they should have returned to the comics for a darker, adult-orientated reboot.
